Based on this principle, they have developed highly effective formulas that contain active skin care ingredients to protect the skin from environmental stresses. One of the most important cornerstones of the line are the foundations with sun protection factor, as this protects the skin and strengthens the active ingredients it contains, making them up to 200% more effective. This is because without SPF, some skin-protecting ingredients are quickly broken down when exposed to light.

But that's not all - that's just the beginning of a product's life cycle. For ILIA, the end of the life cycle is much more important to ensure that the products don't end up in a landfill somewhere but can be recycled cleanly.

Meet the founder Know Sasha

Born in Vancouver and raised in a rural setting by the sea, just outside the city, Sasha has always been very close to nature. Her younger brother and current business partner, Zac, suffered from acute asthma and allergies as a young child. Her mother, a true pioneer in health and wellness at the time, sought out homeopathic remedies to cure her son. This included starting an organic food cooperative with several families in the area, as organic food was not available in grocery stores at the time. Through trial and error, Zac was cured primarily through diet and eventually competed in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics in sailing. This was an amazing achievement, especially after doctors had predicted that he would never be able to participate in sports.

Sasha's interest was in design and she studied typography in London and New York. In 2006, she moved to Los Angeles and worked as a branding manager in the fashion and beauty industry for several years. After moving to Vancouver for a short sabbatical, her mother encouraged her to read the ingredients list of her favorite lip balm. Sasha was shocked to realize that many of the ingredients were not safe, even though she used this balm daily. She set herself the challenge of recreating her favorite lip balm in a way that was safe, effective and natural. And so begins the story of ILIA Beauty .
