Tepezcohuite Extract: The secret ingredient in Maya Dew is known in Mexico as Tepezcohuite (pronounced Te-pez-co-wheete) and is also called "skin tree" by the ancient Maya because of its amazing healing properties. La Belle Lune makes their own Tepezcohuite extract in-house and combine it with organic vanilla beans and organic vegetable glycerin. The bark and root of the tree, which is native to southern Mexico and South America, have been used for centuries to promote skin health. The essential components of its chemical composition are flavonoids (antioxidants), lipids (promote the moisture barrier/hydration of cells), tannins (anti-inflammatory/astringent) and polyphenols/micronutrients (zinc, magnesium and iron), all of which play a role in repairing and protecting the epidermis and inhibiting collagen degradation.
