Sandalwood has a deep, nutty, and earthy aroma with a distinct woody depth. The history of sandalwood dates back to ancient times, when it was used as oil or incense for spiritual inspiration. The oil is extracted by steam distillation from the branches and twigs of sandalwood trees.

Sandalwood is one of the most valuable essential oils available. There are at least five species of sandalwood trees used to produce essential oil, some of which are endangered.

The organic project from which Anima Mundi oils are sourced will never sell oils from endangered species due to its strong commitment to organic and ecological sustainability. Santalum spicatum, also known as Australian sandalwood, is organically grown and sustainably harvested.

In yoga, sandalwood is associated with the root chakra (first chakra, located at the bottom of the spine) and is said to awaken the Kundalini serpent, thus having an aphrodisiac effect.

Ayurvedic medicine describes sandalwood as bitter, cooling, astringent, and soothing. Compresses containing powdered sandalwood and rose water are used as a remedy for inflammation and skin diseases.

Aromatherapy uses the scent of sandalwood when one's head is too busy. The balancing scent is said to calm, relieve tension, and help one find inner peace. 

Australian sandalwood has a rich, woody, smoky scent with a sweet heart note that complements the balsamic base notes. Sandalwood lingers on the skin longer than most oils and has a dry, woody aroma once solidified. It blends well with any essential oil.

Essential oils from Anima Mundi

In 2023, Anima Mundi acquired Floracopeia, a small company specializing in essential oils of the highest quality and gentle processing in small batches. Anima Mundi's founder, Adriana, had attended courses there herself in previous years to learn about the healing power of essential oils and became friends with co-founder David. Adriana Ayales was impressed by the quality and effectiveness of these oils, and although she was never a big fan of essential oils, apart from the classic ingredients in every herbalist's first-aid kit, the experience has remained with her ever since.

Adriana is convinced that these oils are a must-have for your home and travel medicine kit, as they serve various therapeutic and medicinal purposes. The essential oil industry can be incredibly deceptive. Therefore, it was and remains of utmost importance to the founder of Anima Mundi to continue David's commitment and offer small-batch distillations to conscious consumers. Given the prevalence of questionable extractors, diluents, toxins in agriculture, and other harmful practices, bringing these small batches of oils from extremely rural areas to you is no easy task. Anima Mundi has taken on this huge task to offer high-quality oils for both our health and our planet.
