A balm has a similarly creamy consistency to a moisturizer. The two product types differ primarily in that moisturizers have a higher water/moisture content, which hydrates the skin alongside serums and toners, while balms have a higher (plant) oil content, which protects the skin from TEW (transepidermal water loss).
