Arcana is the Latin word for "mystery, secret" and here stands for the exploration of the secrets of the plant world. The word gained prominence through the alchemists in the sixth century, when they explored the great secrets of plants, minerals and the animal world - the Arcana of nature. At that time, the western world was moving from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and the desire for knowledge, both spiritual and physical, was lived out intensely. The alchemists of the early period already understood that all plants and minerals have their own spirit, i.e. their own "essence", which can be extracted for healing and used for physical healing. This knowledge was passed down through symbols and ultimately through language.
With one foot still in this time, in which unlimited potential was attributed to nature, and with the other foot in today's time, which is characterized by the longing for self-care and the reunification with the earth and its nature, ARCANA stands for a modern ritual through an age-old historical perspective. ARCANA thus creates for all those who stand on the threshold between the rational, real world and their inherent nature with its partly metaphysical plant power. The products are the result of the transmission of intuitive knowledge from the plant kingdom, the beauty of artistic representation and mystical landscapes of Scotland.
ARCANA selects exclusively ingredients of the highest quality with a focus on plants that are either wild harvested or created through bio-dynamic agriculture. The selection of ingredients is significantly determined by the biodiversity of the areas that have influenced the brand's founder, Erin Hammond - Scotland and the southern Appalachians (North America). The formulations of the products are deliberately full of dualities - common (in the sense of "everyday") herb paired with the most expensive "actives", simple home remedies from naturopathy mixed with exotic plant oils. This is what makes up the complex universe of ARCANA, which is based on deep-rooted intention and knowledge.
ARCANA describes its compositions as works of art in which every ingredient has its use, regardless of whether it is of physical or energetic origin. For the company, this makes the indication of key ingredients pointless. ARCANA basically does not see itself as part of an industry, but much more as the transmitter of the tradition of an ancient heritage, rich plant-based traditions, ancient history and lived craftsmanship. ARCANA takes the responsibility that we as humans have on a vulnerable earth and its fragile ecosystem seriously. The packaging is produced with low emissions and without wasting resources with the lowest possible amount of plastic. The cardboard boxes and labels are biodegradable without plastic lamination.
The products are vegan, without animal testing, without essential oils, responsibly and sustainably sourced and to a large extent from biodynamic origin.
